KETRON® PEEK / VICTREX® PEEK™

The KETRON PEEK family of materials is based on polyether-etherketone resin. This semi-crystalline advanced material exhibits a unique combination of high mechanical properties, temperature resistance and excellent chemical resistance, making it the most popular advanced plastics material.

Main characteristics:

  • very high max. allowable service temperature in air (250°C continuously, up to 310°C for short periods)
  • high mechanical strength, stiffness and creep resistance, also at elevated temperatures
  • excellent chemical and hydrolysis resistance
  • excellent wear and frictional behaviour (particularly KETRON PEEK-HPV and PEEK-CA30)
  • very good dimensional stability
  • inherent low flammability and very low levels of smoke evolution during combustion
  • good electrical insulating and dielectric properties (except for KETRON PEEK-HPV and PEEK-CA30)
  • excellent resistance against high energy radiation

(PEEK)
natural (brownish grey) / black
KETRON PEEK-1000 stock shapes are produced from virgin polyetheretherketone resin and offer the highest toughness and impact strength of all KETRON PEEK grades. Both KETRON PEEK-1000 natural & black can be sterilized by all conventional sterilization methods (steam, dry heat, ethylene oxide and gamma irradiation). Additionally, the composition of the raw materials used for the manufacture of KETRON PEEK-1000 stock shapes complies with the regulations of the European Union (Directive 2002/72/EC, as amended) and the United States of America (FDA) for plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs.

The addition of carbon fibres, PTFE and graphite to virgin PEEK results in a KETRON PEEK "Bearing Grade". Its excellent tribological properties (low friction, long wear and high Pressure-Velocity capabilities) make this grade especially suited for bearing and wear applications.

KETRON PEEK-GF30 KETRON PEEK-GF30 Material data sheet KETRON PEEK-GF30 Safety data sheet
(PEEK-GF30)
natural (brownish grey)
This 30% glass fibre reinforced grade offers higher stiffness and creep resistance than KETRON PEEK-1000 and has a much better dimensional stability. KETRON PEEK-GF30 is very appropriate for structural parts carrying high static loads for long periods of time at elevated temperatures. Its suitability for sliding parts, however, is to be carefully examined since the glass fibres tend to abrade the mating surface.

(PEEK-CF30)

This 30% carbon fibre reinforced grade combines even higher stiffness, mechanical strength and creep resistance than KETRON PEEK-GF30 with an optimum wear resistance. Moreover, the carbon fibres provide 3.5 times higher thermal conductivity than virgin PEEK, dissipating heat from the bearing surface faster.

Important note: up to the 18th June 2010 we had the statement that "all four KETRON® PEEK grades are based on VICTREX® PEEK polymers" on this page of our site. We purchase KETRON® PEEK products from Quadrant EPP. Earlier in June 2010, we placed an order with Quadrant EPP (UK) Ltd for KETRON® PEEK LSG rod. In addition to the standard certificate of conformity which comes with the LSG grade, our customer requested a statement that the rod had been extruded using VICTREX® PEEK 450G. The Order acknowledgement we received stated that the rods to be supplied would be manufactured from VICTREX® PEEK 450G but this could not be guaranteed to be the case for future purchases of this product. We sort clarification from Quadrant EPP’s UK sales office.

This is their response received on the 11th June; “All KETRON® Peek 1000 Grade Material previously supplied to yourselves has been manufactured from VICTREX® 450G Resins. Moving forward, due to supply risk management we cannot have only one resin supplier. If we do use another resin supplier this resin will be thoroughly tested and certified before being introduced into the market and will be of equivalent if not superior quality. Our material will be supplied as per our Data sheet which has not been changed. We reserve the right to use the relevant resins to ensure the quality of our KETRON® PEEK 1000.”

Engineering & Design Plastics Ltd have not put into stock any KETRON® PEEK between the 11th and 18th of June 2010 and to avoid confusion, all existing stock will be labeled VITREX® PEEK 450G. In future, when we order KETRON® PEEK from Quadrant we will be requesting clarification as to the manufacture of that particular batch and the product will be labeled accordingly before it enters our stock. We will be monitoring the situation and if Quadrant EPP are unable to supply the products our customer's wish to purchase, we do have other suppliers that can currently guarantee that their products are manufactured, solely from VITREX® 450G polymers.
